Yavne’el, Kefar Tavor & Menahamiya Centenary Stamp

The set of three stamps, issued in February 2001, most attractively combine photographic art incorporated into delightful pastel landscape drawings. Towards the end of the Nineteenth century, the first settlements in the Land faced a serious financial crisis endangering their existence, and sought for assistance from Baron Edmond James de Rothschild, who supported them financially and became known as the “Father of the Yishuv.” Later he transferred the activities of the settlements to the Jewish Colonization Association and they expanded with grain cultivation and mixed farming.

The Yavne’el stamp depicts the first village school with a group of pupils and farmers gathered in the front of the building, awaiting the visit of Baron Rothschild. The background pictures red rooftops of houses, with Mt. Gilead and the Golan Heights in the distance.

The Kefar Tavor stamp shows a wooden cart loaded with crops, decorated with flowers, standing outside the village wall. Below on the right, the view extends over Kefar Tavor to Mt. Tabor rising from the plain.

The Menahamiya stamp shows a cart harnessed to a mule with crops being unloaded to a barn. On the right appear bright, red-roofed village houses in a green landscape, pictured against a vision of blue waters of the Jordan river winding its way into the distance.
