The International Folklore Festival Stamp

The stamp issued in June 1990, depicts a group of happy young people dancing on Mt. Carmel, which overlooks Haifa. International folklore festivals have attained notable popularity all over the world. Seven festivals have been held in Israel with the participation of over 3000 dancers, singers and musicians from 27 countries. The City of Haifa was the base for the festival and from here participants set out to perform all over Israel. The objectives of the folklore festival were to provide a meeting-point for nationalities and cultures to share knowledge of their folklore, to introduce them to the land of Israel, its people and its natural beauty, and to create bonds of friendship between speakers of different languages. The main event was the parade of the dancers, singers and musicians through the main streets of the city, in which thousands of dancers from Israel, and guests, take part. Orchestras and choirs joined in the two-hour parade which was watched by about 100,000 spectators. The stamp with an information sheet are enclosed in a plastic protection sheet
