Migratory Birds Stamp
The series of three beautifully presented stamps respectively show a crane, black stork and golden eagle in flight over areas in Israel frequented by the birds in the Land, that is, the Lakes area, Jordan Valley and Judean Hills. In Israel there are six species of eagles of the genus Aquila, which are now rare. The world population of the Black Stork is endangered, while the White Stork remains the most prominent bird in Israel during the migrating season. Cranes pass over Israel twice a year, in autumn on their migration to Africa, and in spring during their return to Europe. At these times large flocks of Cranes can be seen travelling in Israel’s sky, in neat arrowhead formation. Geographically Israel is located at the junction of three continents: Europe, Asia and Africa, stopover for some 500 million birds which converge upon the tiny land during their spring and autumn migrations – a natural phenomenon unparalleled in the world.
The souvenir sheet was issued in December, 2002. The souvenir sheet together with an information sheet are enclosed in a plastic protection sheet.
