Yeshivot Hahesder (Rabbinical College) Stamp
The stamp issued February 2003 marks the anniversary of the first “Hahesder” rabbinical college in Israel, February 1954 – the “Yishivat Kerem B’Yavneh”. The stamp portrays two young uniformed Israelis, bent over the Hebrew Scriptures. Their skullcaps and a prayer shawl worn indicate a combination of military/religious duties. On the tab the massive, oriental style Yeshiva College building is shown. Since the Six-Day-War, thirty six of military/rabbinical colleges have been established, These academies belong to the “Yeshivot Hahesder Association” which serves as a link between orthodox Jewry and the Israeli army. College graduates work in areas, such as education, social work, resettlement etc., aiming at the amelioration and maintenance of religious and moral standards in Israeli society. Many have given up their lives in the wars between Israel and its enemies.
The stamp with an information sheet are enclosed in a plastic protection sheet.
