Yehuda Amichai Stamp
This stamp issue features a portrait of the poet based on a photograph, with the tab shows an ex’erpt of handwritten script of his poem “God has mercy on the children.” Yehuda Amichai (1924-2000) came from an orthodox German-Jewish family that immigrated into Israel in 1936 and settled in Jerusalem. His ability to express the deep disillusionment of a generation that had experienced almost continual wars and insecurity, contrasted with a great love of living, while yearning for peace, makes him one of the most popular poets in Israel. The souvenir sheet was issued in September, 2001. The souvenir sheet together with an information sheet are enclosed in a plastic protection sheet.
