Israel National Committee for UNICEF Stamp

This stamp was issued on 30th April, 1989 – UNICEF is part of the United Nations system of organisation for children in developing countries. It co-operates and works with aid agencies and other organisations in 117 countries. UNICEF is committed to helping children in need regardless of race, nationality, religion or sex. In 1969, the Israel National Committee for UNICEF was established at the request of ENICEF’s Executive Director, so that Israel could be more effectively involved in the organisation’s activities. The comittee’s purpose is to disseminate knowledge and information about the importance of the work, in order to increase awareness of the problems of children – hunger, education, disease – on an international as well as on a national level. Israel were involved in “operation Solomon” in airlifting some 15,000 refugees including many children from the strife torn and drought stricken country of Ethiopia. The stamp with an information sheet are enclosed in a plastic protection sheet
