Festival 2002, Wine in Israel Stamp

Three festival stamps issued August 2002, present modern vintage and wine industry processes in the Land, contrasted with former and ancient methods illustrated on two of the tabs. NIS 1.20 stamp – Colour photograph of a cutter used to harvest grapes manually and a bunch of ripe grapes; a vineyard laid out and planted after the latest “Cordon system” making it suitable for mechanical harvesting, is contrasted with an ancient wine-press on the tab. NIS 1.90 stamp – Colour photograph of a corkscrew, illustrating that to this day, cork is the accepted way of sealing wine bottles. The ancient building of the “Rishon Leziyyon” Winery, the first to be established in Palestine, contrasts with modern wine-making equipment on the tab. NIS 2.30 stamp – Colour photograph of a classic white wine glass next to a bottle of wine. The two essential stages in the aging of top quality (mainly red) wines, in oak barrels, and continued maturing in bottles stored under suitable conditions are illustrated on the tab. The stamps with an information sheet are enclosed in a plastic protection sheet
