The Ardon Windows Souvenir Stamp Sheet

This special stamp was issued on 17th April 1990 Mordecai Ardon is one of the great painters of Israel. During more than five decades he had produced a great number of paintings of a very specific style. He created the theme of the stained glass windsow on the National and University Library at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, taking his ideas from Isaiah 2:2-4, “and many people shall go and say, come ye and let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh”. In the left part of the windows is displayed the roads to Jerusalem, upon which the nations of the world will traverse for worship. On each of the roads is written in different languages and letters the quotation from Isaiah 2. In the centre window is the Holy City wiwth the city wall as mentioned in the Isaiah parchment found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. Above the wall is a piece of parchment, with the quote “and they shall beat their swords into plough-shares”/ Next to this are blue circles intertwined with lines: the “Cabbalistic Tree of Spheres”‘ whilst to its left is another set of figures, a circle within a circle, also from the “Book of Zohar”. To the right part of the windows, a quotation from Isaiah’s prophecy is graphically illustrated: broken guns and ammunition are beaten into plough-shares, hovering above.

The stamp with an information sheet are enclosed in a plastic protection sheet.
