Born in Sana in the Yemen, Rabbi Sharabi worked hard as a youth, selling wares from house to house, to keep his mother and brother. While on the road, he tried to memorise his religious studies, constantly turning them over in his mind. He vowed to return to Palestine, and eventually fulfilled his vow. In the Holy City he became caretaker of the “Bet El” Yeshiva (Academy). He amazed all the teachers and students by his ability to find an answer to the most difficult questions. His great work is an annotated prayer book titled “Nehar Shalom” which directs the thoughts and actions of the worshippers according to kabbalistic beliefs. It contains detailed commentaries on every blessing and section of the prayer book for to the Kabbalist, the spiritual illustrates terrestrial happenings and every blessing, prayer and act is seen as being divinely influenced.
